"Grandma" Totzke's Macaroni & Cheese

"Grandma" Totzke was the school cook at Christ Lutheran School when Ed & Kathleen were growing up. She would always call mom (grandma) Staude to let her know what days not to pack lunches for the "kiddies" because she was making her fantastic homemade macaroni and cheese. While the recipe calls for any kind of cubed cheese, she used a white cheese, (probably a cheddar). She would bake the mac & cheese until the top was a rich golden brown.

4 large servings

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped fine
  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 cups cubed cheese
  • Dash or two of Worchestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Combine above ingredients to make a sauce, heating until cheese is melted. Pour over 4 cups cooked macaroni. Dot with butter. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until bubbly and browned.
